As usual we will have multiple escape rooms at the new location. The first one to open on the 10th of January is Steampunk. The room is set in the Steampunk Universe, where a team of detectives is trying to save London from a devastating explosion. The room is fairly complicated and the game will run for 90 minutes.

Second room to open at the new location will be the Australian Heist. In this game your team will transform into a gang of bank robbers. You will need to steal gold from the vault of highest security. We are presently finalizing this room and will open it to public later this month.

Escape Room businesses across Australia have teamed up to create this charitable event. From the 11th – 17th of September, 20% of all profits from participating Escape Rooms will go to The Black Dog Institute.

Escape Week is aiming to raise $30,000 through participating businesses and individual donations.

Why Black Dog Institute?

We wanted to support a charity that has an impact on our customers. Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians and The Black Dog Institute is dedicated to understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.

An escape room is a great activity for people to do with their friends, family and colleagues. It’s an opportunity to work as a team away from phones and social media, a chance for people to get out of their heads and have some fun.

First step is to find or make a mold, which meets your requirements (e.g. size, shape, symbols, etc.). Fill it with the material of your choice (we used casting rock), and let it dry. Here is our plaque straight out of the mold:

We then sanded the plaque to remove any sharp edges and defects. Next steps involve a lot of painting. We started with the primer:

Then added second layer of paint:

Next step was to paint feature elements:

And finally, finish it off with a layer of varnish to protect the paint:

With paintwork finished our plaque was ready for mechanics and electronics to be installed. But this is a topic for a new story.

Look for the clues and use the available resources. You will be fully engaged at the Quest Room, and will surely remember time spent here for a long time.

Mad Dance House

Feeling energetic and in the mood to dance? At the Mad Dance House you will be able to take part in many different dance styles which include salsa, zumba, hip hop, ballet and even trampolining. It is a “laugh a minute” and you and your friends will have a great time watching others try dance moves that they have never done before.

The Saturday Markets

Brisbane has a number of farmers markets where you can pick up every type of food imaginable for your breakfast, lunch or dinner. Take a stroll around the markets in the sun and see all of the prime choices that await you.

Strike Bowling Bar

Think that bowling has gone out of style? Think again! A fun evening awaits you and your friends as you bowl for your life at the Strike Bowling Bar. If you are into sport and football in particular, then what could be better than going to a football game? You have a choice of football codes from AFL to soccer, to NRL and Union. Whichever one you pick get involved by wearing the shirt of the team you are supporting and sing your heart out.

Cooking Anybody?

Like food but don’t know how to cook properly? Or maybe you think that you are already at the gourmet chef level. Well here is your chance to show off your culinary skills in the kitchen. You can learn to cook just about anything from Asian dishes, curries, pasta and others. Once you have created your masterpiece you can then eat it with a nice bottle of wine.

Dance at Cloudland

Here is another dancing option for you. If you feel like a bit of salsa on Thursday night head out to the Cloudland club on the Valley.  It is the perfect place to get down to those classic jazzy Cuban music vibes. You and your friends can go “double time” and really up the tempo. There are dance classes for free and as much live music and tequila as you can handle.

Take a City Bike Ride

The very best way to do this is if you and your friends all wear that essential body clinging Lycra. Plan your bike riding day around the river and feel that wonderful breeze in your hair. At West End you can do the river loop and you can also cycle around the Botanical Gardens, Southbank, New Farm and Kangaroo Point. After your exertions why not stop for a picnic?

This is just a small selection of the fun things that couples and small groups of friends can do in sunny Brisbane. The city has many bars and restaurants too for you to relax and unwind and enjoy each other’s company. You now have no excuse – get out there and enjoy yourselves.
